Export Briefing of Bangladesh's Leather and Footwear Industry in the First Three Quarters of 2021

Bangladesh is rich in leather resources. 1. Leather

In 2021, Bangladesh's leather industry exports have shown substantial growth, but they have not yet returned to their pre-epidemic levels. The total value of leather exports in the third quarter was 31.96 million US dollars, an increase of 34.29% year-on-year, but a decrease of 22.37% compared with the same period before the epidemic. From January to September 2021, Bangladesh's leather industry exports totaled US$96.51 million. In the same period in 2020, exports were US$56.31 million, a year-on-year increase of 71%. However, compared with the same period in 2019 before the epidemic, the export value fell by 8%.

2. Leather products

In 2021, Bangladesh's leather products exports have grown substantially, and have basically returned to the level before the epidemic. The total export value of leather products in the third quarter was US$70.67 million, a year-on-year increase of 33.34% and an increase of 38% compared to the same period before the epidemic. From January to September 2021, Bangladesh's leather product exports totaled US$211.1 million, and exports in the same period in 2020 were US$147.85 million, a year-on-year increase of 43%. Compared with the same period in 2019 before the epidemic, the export value increased by 8%.

3. leather shoes

In 2021, Bangladesh's leather shoe exports showed an upward trend, basically returning to the level before the epidemic. The total export value of leather shoes in the third quarter was US$168.7 million, a year-on-year increase of 13.72% and a decrease of 4% compared with the same period before the epidemic. From January to September 2021, Bangladesh's leather shoe exports totaled US$456.9 million. The export value in the same period in 2020 was US$342.78 million, a year-on-year increase of 33%. Compared with the same period in 2019 before the epidemic, the export value increased by 3.5%.

4. other footwear

In 2021, Bangladesh's other footwear exports will generally show a medium-to-low growth rate. Other footwear exports totaled US$92.63 million in the third quarter, a year-on-year decrease of 9.22% and an increase of 38.52% compared to the same period before the epidemic. From January to September 2021, Bangladesh's other footwear exports totaled US$265.64 million, and exports in the same period in 2020 were US$22.24 million, a year-on-year increase of 19.43%.
